Mosaic Netscape requires System 7 and an 020 processor. It will not run on
a Mac Plus, SE, Classic, or Powerbook 100. It will run on an SE/30, Classic II,
other Powerbooks, and any Mac II-series machine. It will also run on Power
Macintoshes. It does not require a color monitor, but at least 256 colors are
very much recommended.
Release notes for this version of Mosaic Netscape are available online.
After starting the program, select "Version Information" from the
"Help" menu. This will take you to the URL
http://home.mcom.com/home/help-on-version/macintosh-beta-0.9.html
which lists new features and known problems of this release.
To submit bugs or other feedback, use the "How To Give Feedback" option,
also in the "Help" menu, which will take you to the URL
http://home.mcom.com/home/how-to-give-feedback.html
If for some reason you cannot submit feedback using that form, you may
send email to mac_cbug@mcom.com. If submitting a bug report, check the known
bug list first. Please be as specific as possible about the version of
Mosaic Netscape you are using, and the hardware (CPU, monitor), and
version of the OS. If possible, include a test case for the problem,
including a URL.

Installation Instructions
==============================================================================
* Download mosaic-netscape-B09.sit.hqx using ASCII mode.
* Use your favorite unbinhexing program (such as Stuffit Expander) on it. The
result will be a self-extracting archive. Double-click to uncompress it.
* Double-click again on Mosaic Netscape icon to run.
* When you run Netscape for the first time, you should set your name,
email address, mail server, news server, and downloads/temporary
directory in "Options:Preferences."
To optimize your performance:
==============================================================================
* Netscape will use all of its available memory for caching. For better
caching, increase its memory partition.
* If you would like to use external viewers for jpeg and gif files,
specify this in "Options:Preferences:Helper Applications".
* If you do many FTP downloads and are on an Ethernet network, you may get a speed
increase by setting the network buffer size to 4K or so. However, this may decrease
responsiveness. Conversely, if you normally dial up via a 14.4K modem connection,
decreasing the buffer size to 1K may help.
* To increase the amount of memory available for caching set the
expiration of global history to something less than 30 days.
For NCSA Mosaic and MacWeb users:
==============================================================================
* If you would like to import your hotlists into Netscape, save/convert them
to HTML, and then import them using the Import button in the "Bookmarks" window.
* By default, Netscape will display 'external' GIF and JPEG images in its
main window. If you'd like to use external viewer for these files, you
can easily change the default GIF/JPEG application in "Preferences"
Miscellaneous notes:
==============================================================================
* If you have multiple users running Netscape on the same machine, each
user should have their own copy of "Mosaic NetScape™ ƒ" folder from the
"Preferences" folder, and launch the application by double-clicking on the
"Mosaic NetScape™ Preference" file.
* Yes, this is Mozilla.
